We are hiring a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for our growing team that will provide services for the Bellefonte Hospital! The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is a licensed practitioner who is responsible for managing acute psychiatric conditions and substance withdrawal care for patients within the behavioral health setting in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations and the nursing standards of care (assessment of health status, diagnosis, development of plan of care and treatment, implementation of treatment plan, and evaluation of patient status)  

Key Responsibilities

  • Functions independently to perform age-appropriate psychiatric evaluations in collaboration with MD.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s needs
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities 
  • Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain mental health stability, 
  • Monitors the effectiveness of interventions.
  • See that any prescription needed by a patient is called into the designated pharmacy at time of discharge
  • Complete suicide risk assessments as indiciated 
  • Participate in treatment team and discharge planning
  • In case of an emergency, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner shall refer a person served/client to a specialist or emergency room for further treatment of acute medical conditions.  
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.  Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools.
  • Member of the Utilization Review team.
  • Call/email/chat for/to payors who may be denying a level of care especially when medical necessity justifies or demands higher levels of care. Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner involvement is the last option only when the Utilization Review team is unsuccessful and has exhausted all levels of options. 
  • Ensures persons served/client confidentiality is in compliance with HIPAA.
  • The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is expected to protect the privacy of all persons served/client information in accordance with ARC Health Systems privacy policies, procedures, and practices, as required by federal and state law, and in accordance with a general principle of professionalism as a healthcare provider.  Failure to comply with ARC Health Systems  policies and procedures on persons served/client privacy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
  • The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner may access protected health information (PHI) and other persons served/client information only to the extent that is necessary to complete your job duties.  The incumbent may only share such information with those who have a need to know specific persons served/client information you have in your possession to complete their job responsibilities related to treatment, payment, or other operations.
  • Maintain a respectful relationship with staff and persons served/patients.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times displaying a professional disposition towards fellow staff.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with staff and consumers alike.
  • Bring policy/personnel issues to supervision as they arise.
  • Must have the ability to interact with staff and persons served/clients in a professional manner.
  • Adhere to Confidentiality requirements as outlined in 42 CFR, Part 2.
  • Computer literate with experience in a Windows environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize work and work-related responsibilities.
  • Complete comprehensive psychiatric evaluation  within 24 hours of admission.
  • Complete all medical notes on the same day of service.
  • Available 24/7 for emergency consultations.
  • Maintain a positive, respectful, and professional working relationship with ARC Health Systems staff and consumers alike.
  • Expected to report, without the threat of retaliation, any concerns regarding ARC Health Systems policies and procedures on patient privacy and any observed practices in violation of the policy to their supervisor.
  • Performs other duties assigned.

Key Experience and Education Needed:

  • APRN 
  • NP License in the state of KY
  • Inpatient psychiatric experience preferred
 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

 
  • Adhere to Confidentiality requirements as outlined in 42 CFR, Part 2.
  • Computer literate with experience in a Windows environment or Chrome. 
  • Knowledge of the physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual impact of alcohol and other drugs on the individual and family 
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Municipal laws and/or regulations that regulate the treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle crisis situations in a calm and supportive manner
  • Ability to exhibit professional and courteous behavior, consistent with the Pioneer Rural Health statement, when interacting with persons of varying backgrounds and education levels to create a safe and healthy relationship with clients served 
  • Ability to operate computers and other equipment in the office
  • Must have sufficient mobility to move around the office and the community.
