The Assistant Carpentry Instructor is an experienced professional within the carpentry/construction community who harnesses the ability to teach students the basics on how to shape and prepare wood products for use.

  • Installing wooden structures such as roofing frames, rafters, partitions, joists and stud work Designing and installing cabinets, shelving, fitted furniture, drywall and insulation 
  • Adding fixtures and fittings such as door handles, locks, hinges and closures 
  • Selecting lumber by size and strength to suit each job, sourcing wood to suit the customer's budget and style 
  • Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements 
  • Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed 
  • Carve and assemble furniture, cabinets, shelves and other items and install them where designated 
  • Inspect places and conduct repairs or maintenance 
  • Build scaffolding and other construction structures 
  • Train carpentry students, ranging in all levels of experience 
  • Maintain a respectful relationship with employees, interns and persons served/clients Bring policy/personnel issues to supervision as they arise 
  • Maintain a valid driver's license 
  • Protect the privacy of all staff and persons served/client information in accordance with privacy policies, procedures and practices, as required by federal and state law, and in accordance with general principles of professionalism in a healthcare environment.

Key Experience and Education Needed:

  • Valid carpentry license, certification or successful completion of a carpentry apprenticeship program preferred. 
  • High school diploma or GED 
  • 5 to 10 years of Carpentry Experience

Other Qualifications to be Considered:

  • Proven experience as a carpenter or carpentry instructor 
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings 
  • Proficient in using hand and power tools 
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations related to carpentry 
  • Liaising with clients, suppliers and other construction professionals 
  • Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers etc.
  • Willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times 
  • Good knowledge of English 
  • Good understanding of basic math 
  • Good physical condition and endurance 
  • Ability to read detailed health records 
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. 
  • Ability to operate computer and other office equipment 
  • Must have sufficient mobility to competently perform all physical tasks listed above. 
  • Work occurs primarily in an on-site environment and may be indoors or outdoors. May sometimes involve heights, exposure to hot or cold weather, loud noises, dust and fumes.
